Field Horticulture Associate

The Old Yew Plant Shop seeks a hardworking, motivated plant person to join our Field Horticulturist team. 

The Old Yew is a quickly growing small business centered around connecting people with plants. The core of our business are our retail stores in the West Village and Chelsea, where we stock a wide variety of plants sourced directly from growers around the country. Through our trade program, we also work with interior designers and architects to style & place statement plants. Additionally, we offer full service urban landscape design and installation throughout the boroughs and beyond. From expert selection of the finest specimens to white glove delivery and installation, we bring homes, offices, and outdoor spaces to glorious, green life.

The Field Horticulture Associate’s primary responsibilities include caring for interior & landscape plants at our warehouse and at our client’s properties. The candidate has knowledge and direct experience with plants and is comfortable commuting to job sites and working collaboratively and independently. Valid drivers license is a must. 

  • Time management and efficiency is critical to bringing home each project successfully.
  • Job site interaction with clients as required, problem solving, and critical thinking is a must.
  • Nearly every project will throw a curveball at you. The expectation is that you will adjust your swing.
  • You must be punctual and reliable and record your time properly. Willing to work late if the job requires. 
  • Maintaining a clean driving record is a must. Report any tickets/fines as they arise.
  • Have a working knowledge of common houseplants and houseplant care
  • Ability to lift / carry large plants, planters, and soil up to 100lbs
  • Ability to work on occasional weekends
  • Provide a premium quality of service to our customers on all projects.
  • Take care to install all interior and exterior plants, planters and other plantings as directed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ensure successful, safe, clean, and efficient indoor and outdoor installations.  
  • Assist with the loading of the day’s plants, planters and other materials.
  • Maintain installation tools and equipment & make sure the team is equipped for the day.
  • Review work order & job installation instructions.
  • Job sites must be left better than broom clean – immaculate.
  • Maintain polite, professional and respectful demeanor to clients.
  • Assist at retail shops as necessary, including unloading incoming material deliveries. 
  • Recordkeeping, note-taking, research, and help with ordering materials and supplies.
  • Ongoing and open communication.
