Can Any Plant Live Without Sun or Water?
Short answer: no — but some plants come pretty close, and that's good news if you're not exactly a green thumb yet.
Every plant is a living thing, and every living thing needs energy to survive. For plants, that energy comes from photosynthesis — the process of turning light, water, and air into food. The building blocks of that process are carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, which plants pull from the air and water around them. Cut off the light or the water completely, and a plant simply can't make the fuel it needs to live.
So while there's no such thing as a truly "no water, no light" plant, there absolutely are plants built for people who forget to water, or who live in a dim corner of an apartment.
Low-Water Plants
If watering slips your mind more often than not, look for succulents, Dracaena, or one of the many peperomia varieties. These plants store water in their leaves and stems, so they can comfortably go longer stretches between drinks than your average houseplant.

Low-Light Plants
If your space is short on sunshine, you're not out of options either. Snake plants, ferns, and ZZ plants are all known for tolerating low-light corners that would leave other plants pale and struggling.

The Real Takeaway
Every plant needs some light and some water to survive — there's no getting around that. But choosing species that are naturally low-maintenance means you can have a thriving plant collection even if your space (or your schedule) isn't ideal. The key is matching the plant to your actual conditions, not the conditions you wish you had.
